Erie County Legislator Terry McCracken, Alden Chamber of Commerce President Christopher Gust, Farmers Market Manager Nancy Hughes, and Alden Town Supervisor Bud Milligan cut the ribbon to mark the formal opening of the 10th Farmers Market summer entertainment season on June 2, 2012.
The 2013 schedule is below this article
STILL TIME FOR THE FARMERS MARKET
Hard to believe, but the 11th season of Alden’s Farmers Market closes in just a few weeks – on Oct. 5. If you haven’t been there yet, do make the effort! There’s always something interesting and fun going on.
Produce quality has been fabulous this year! Don't forget to stock up on fruits and vegetables – as well as other products for the winter months. Honey & maple products, jams & jellies, fudge, handmade soaps & lotions, gourmet pastas, fancy olive products, spices & dips are just some of the items that make excellent gifts, in addition to stocking your pantry. We even have perennial plants ready for Fall planting and gourmet “doggie cookies” for Fido. In addition, there are “Alden: Alive & Growing” fleece vests and tote bags.
We have a loyal family of core vendors, providing a nearly “one-stop shopping” line-up. Crafters also are frequently on hand. Some vendors come only occasionally so return trips are recommended. Special events are planned every week. The full events schedule is listed below.
Closing Day will again be jam-packed with the Chamber Hot Dot Roast for all members, a costume and pet parade, music from Sara Elizabeth Genco, the drawings for our second Big Basket raffle and Shed raffle, and more. We hope you’ll join us!
Our first basket of Alden-area gift certificates (valued at more than $1000) was raffled on July 27. Former Mayor Dick Kegler won. You could be the lucky person to win the Chamber's second “big basket” of Gift Certificates, Lotto tickets, and special offers from a wide variety of local businesses. Tickets are just $1.00 and are also available at the Alden Advertiser, Alden Pharmacy, Carbone’s Pizza, and the Chamber of Commerce office.
In addition, raffle tickets remain on sale for the beautiful 8 x 12 Amish-made shed near the Chamber of Commerce table at the Market. Come, take a look. Tickets are $2.00 each or three for $5.00. That winning ticket also will be pulled on October 5, the Market's closing day.
Tractor Supply, Save a Lot, and New2You have been wonderful neighbors to the Market. We appreciate their support & cooperation. With the pending arrival of a new store, our space was shifted during the year, but has worked out. We look forward to another good neighbor. We also greatly appreciate the Plaza management company. Of course, we can't overlook the Alden Advertiser! Finally, a core group of hard-working Chamber volunteers and many loyal customers all make the Market hum. We always are seeking new folks to join us.
The Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Market and Chamber members volunteer to keep it running every Saturday morning from 8:30 to 1:00 in the Alden Village Plaza (near Tractor Supply) at 13119 Broadway (Rt 20). Alden is a WIC-approved Farmers Market.
Call Market Manager Nancy Hughes at 937-0103 or the Chamber office for more information about anything concerning the Market. Alden-area groups are encouraged to sell food and/or have information tables at the Market. Crafters and other potential vendors are invited to register for any or all of the Farmers Market events by calling either the Market Manager (937-0103) or the Chamber office (937-6177). For any questions, you may also email email@example.com (Chamber office) or firstname.lastname@example.org (Market Manager). Chamber members can have a free space.
