ALDENS FARMERS MARKET 2007 Events Schedule
Mark your calendars! The Alden Farmers Market will open its fifth season on May 26, 2007. Chamber members can have a space to sell qualifying products at the Market at no cost. Please call at least 1 week in advance.
This year’s Market vendors to date are Borsuic Cherries, D & L Bakery, Domoy Farms, Elvern Produce, The Garden Mart, Grandma K’s, Heberle Farms, Henry’s Candy & Gifts, Hidden Ponds Nursery, Ken’s Maple Products, Petals to Plants, Tom’s Thumb and Weiss Farms. The Chamber will also sell products from the Pasta Peddler and A Pinch of Spice. New vendors are added throughout the season.
If the weather cooperates, several specialty vendors may open informally a week or two early; so swing by Ames Plaza on May 12 & 19 to check. Potentially, several nurseries, a maple/honey producer, a bakery and others may be present at the preseason weeks.
May 26 will feature a crafts show and our plant people will have Memorial Day arrangements for sale. Craft shows also will be held June 16, July 14 and Sept. 15. The Village-Wide Garage Sale will be August 4. As in past years, nonprofit groups will sell coffee, soda & snacks throughout the regular season. Two large raffles will again be featured, with drawings on July 21 & Sept. 29.
Huge varieties of fruits & vegetables, cheese, fudge, baked goods, maple & honey products, brown eggs, jams & jellies, handcrafted soaps, hanging baskets, plants & florals, crafts, scheduled events and much much more are available at the market.
The Farmers Market is once again located in the former Ames Plaza at 13119 Broadway, Alden, and will be open every Saturday from 8:30am to 1:00 pm, through September 29. The regular entertainment season begins June 2, with the Niagara Frontier Fiddle Club.
Two pie-baking contests are new this year, so start planning your entries. Each must include at least one product from the Farmers Market. We’ll also have a Zucchini Contest and a Pumpkin Contest; so get those super seeds in your ground as soon as possible!
Kids also can start planning for “KIDS DAY”. What sort of crafts, cookies, cold drinks, hobbies, flowers or veggies could you sell this year? Our 30+ young vendors were a big hit in 2006. The Farmers Market is sponsored by the Alden Chamber of Commerce, which is celebrating more than 50 years of service to the community.
Due to Health Department regulations, pets are not allowed in the food areas of the Farmers Market. Bicycles, skateboards and roller blades also are not allowed within the Market, for safety reasons. The general Farmers Market contact is Nancy Hughes at 937-0103.
