ALDEN FARMERS MARKET OPENS MAY 10

  2008 schedule

Alden’s Farmers Market opens its sixth season May 10 – the Saturday before Mother’s Day.   A new cheese vendor and new produce vendor have been added and nearly all last year’s vendors are returning.  Several nurseries, a bakery, a maple/honey producer, fudge, handcrafted soap, cheese and some produce are expected during May and will increase as the season goes on.  Additional vendors are welcome.  The Farmers Market is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. A new early-season feature will be a Flea Market on May 17 – so clean out your closets

and join us.  Craft shows (hand-made crafts only) will be featured on May 10th and 24th as well as on July 5 and Sept. 6.    The Village-Wide Garage Sale will be August 2.  Crafters and Garage Sale folks are invited to register for any or all of the Farmers Market events by calling either the Market Manager (Nancy at 937-0103) or the Chamber office
(937-6177).

As in past years, non-profit groups will sell coffee, soda and snacks throughout the regular season.  Two large raffles will again be featured, with drawings on July 26 and Oct. 4 (closing day).

The regular entertainment season begins May 31, with country singer Craig Wilkins.  This also will be the kick-off for the second year of Walk the Villages in Alden.  We’ll do two pie-baking contests again this year (6/21 and 9/27), so

start planning your entries.  Each must include at least one product from the Farmers Market.  New this year is a Flower Arranging contest on August 9.  We’ll also have a Zucchini Contest on Aug. 23; so get those super seeds in your ground soon as possible! The Farmers Market is located in the former Ames Plaza at 13119 Broadway, Alden, and will be open every Saturday from 8:30am to 1:00 pm, through October 4.  Due to Health Department regulations, pets are not allowed in the food areas of the Farmers Market and will not be allowed at the Craft Shows.  Bicycles, skateboards and rollerblades also are not allowed within the Market, for safety reasons.  The general Farmers Market contact is Nancy Hughes at 937-0103
