Kohl Construction Inc. was formed in 1971 by Gary D. Wagner. Located at 1427 Two Rod Road in Alden, Kohl Construction is a General Contractor firm that has received recognition for its outstanding work. Kohl Construction has been presented a Project of the Year Award (Environmental) from the American Public Works Association (APWA). The firm is certified in water and waste water treatment facilities for rehabilitation, upgrading or new systems. Kohl Construction will also rehabilitate, upgrade or new build pumping stations. In addition, Kohl Construction offers commercial snow removal. Dozer and backhoe site work including utility service work is also available. General contracting for commercial building construction is another service offered. Kohl Construction employs four full time and four seasonal workers. Newly located at 12482 Broadway in Alden, Alternative Care Services was begun in 1987 as a non profit charitable agency serving the 8 WNY counties with health and education programs. There are seven officers and three employees. Alternative Care Services offers five main services. The most requested service is Nutrition, offering Meals on Wheels to the disabled, aging and homebound population. This service is independent of Erie County’s Meals on Wheels and currently serves 40 recipients. Homemade meals are prepared on site and delivered within the Alden School District area. Meals include a hot meal with beverages, meat, potato, vegetable/salad, and dessert. The evening meal has beverages, soup, sandwich and dessert. Other services offered are Health Education; Information & Referral, including Health Care Proxy and Living Wills; Pre-employment and reality of death counseling, and Emergency counseling and transportation for domestic violence cases.
