2011 Chamber Ornaments Now Available

The seventh in a series of beautiful commemorative ornaments of an Alden landmark is now available. This year’s ornament commemorates the Erie County Home. The ornament is etched into a lovely beveled piece of glass.
Brought to you by the Alden Chamber of Commerce, this ornament, designed by Bill Dabb of Laser Ace Engraving, is part of a limited edition series. Introduced in 2005 with the gazebo at Fireman’s Park, the ornaments have been very popular and sell out quickly. The series continued with the Ewell Free Library in 2006, the Alden Advertiser building in 2007, the Alden Historical Society building in 2008, the Whistle Stop Inn in 2009 and St Aidan’s Episcopal Church, the original Black Water Bath House in 2010.
Ornaments cost just $5.00 and are available at the Chamber office, 13500 Broadway; Alden Advertiser, 13200 Broadway; Alden Pharmacy, 13203 Broadway, and Henry’s Candy & Gifts, 13237 Broadway during their regular business hours.
Past ornaments are available at the Alden Chamber of Commerce office, 13500 Broadway, for $7.00 bought individually or $6 each when bought in a complete set (2005 - 2011 $42.00).
Residential and Business Holiday Lighting Contest Winners
Sponsored by Cooke and Steffan, Attorneys
After the December Board of Directors meeting of the Alden Chamber of Commerce, four Chamber representatives set out to judge all the lighting and decoration entrants in the Chamber’s annual contest. In spite of the un-Christmas-like conditions with 50 degree temperatures and a complete lack of snow, a fun time was had by all, and the judges saw many impressive displays.
Choosing winners is very difficult when so much effort and time has been put to use in creating the brightly lit displays. There were sixteen residential and three business contestants in this year’s contest, sponsored by the Alden Chamber of Commerce. The judges wish to thank all those who entered their own or another’s display to be judged. All prizes are awarded in Alden Chamber of Commerce Gift Certificates.
First place winner of the Holiday Spirit Award was NAPA Auto Parts, 12691 Broadway for the business entry. NAPA Auto Parts will be able to display this beautiful Holiday Spirit Award throughout the coming year.
First place winner for the residential entry was Robert and Norma Joseph, 1543 Homecourt, Alden. Second place residential award was won by Pete and Debby Heilemann, 3022 Peters Corners Road, Alden. Third place winner for a residential entry was Thomas and Sue Roetzer, 1058 Three Rod Road, Alden.
Plan an evening to drive around the village and town to see all the beautiful lighting displays of the winners and contestants, along with the displays that were not entered. Be sure to include a ride by the beautiful lights lining the Village streets and in Firemen’s Park. The Chamber thanks everyone who participated and appreciates everyone’s efforts to help make our community beautiful during the holiday season.
